The Value of Service page 12 Service has long been a hallmark at ACE Enterprises. But service of a different kind threatened opera- tions until the company commit- ted to the Peterbilt Model 337. first C L A S S Editorial director: Katy Troester • Editor: Bill Laste • Art director: Dale Aspinall • Client services manager: Cyndy Seitz • Publisher: Pete Sobic First Class is published by Northbrook Custom Media, a division of Randall-Reilly Publishing Company, LLC, on behalf of Peterbilt Motors Company and its dealers. Everest. Running a 4-minute mile. Flying a manned airplane. At one point, these tasks seemed impossible. And then, human grit, ingenuity and determination broke down the barriers that stood in the path of achievement. Now hundreds scale Everest every spring. High-school kids run 4-minute miles. And contrails criss-cross the sky in ways the Wright Brothers surely never imagined. In trucking, achieving 10 miles per gallon in a Class 8, truckload, long-haul application has been nearly as daunt- ing as the forementioned tasks, if not as headline-grabbing. But in Joliette, Quebec, Danfreight Systems president Daniel Berard, armed with a fleet of aerodynamic Peterbilt Model 587s and fuel-saving PACCAR MX engines, believes he's just a tweak or two away from achieving double-digit fuel economy. According to Berard, achieving 10 mpg consistently requires scrutiny of every aspect of his equipment, from the tread of the single-wide tires speced around his Model 587s to the color — yes, the color — of his tractors and trailers. "It's a spaghetti sauce," says Berard. "All the ingredients have to be there to make it happen." But at the root of his pursuit of unheard-of fuel efficiency are the two primary ingredients — the Peterbilt Model 587 and the PACCAR MX engine. "The combustion platform of the MX is just about per- fect. We believe it's only possible to achieve our goals with a Peterbilt and PACCAR MX." Be sure to read about other goal-oriented customers in this issue of First Class. In Baton Rouge, La., ACE Enterprises uses the Peterbilt Model 337 to achieve new levels of operational efficiency (page 12). And in Vittoria, Ontario, the ScotLynn Group of Companies continues to take market share by pro- ducing unmatched levels of performance with their all-Peterbilt fleet (page 18). Let Peterbilt help make your goals — no matter how lofty or unimaginable they may seem — a reality too.
