He has been selected as playing captain for the
state of Alabama in the U.S. State Team Champion-
ship along with Matthew Gourgeot and Matt John-
son. This will be played Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at French
Lick Resort in Indiana.
He also plans to play in the upcoming State Mid-
Amateur at Montgomery CC next week, along with
the SOS Vinny Giles Seniors Championship in Savan-
nah, Ga., another senior event in South Carolina and
the State Senior Four Ball with his brother Tab. So,
he has still has a lot to play for and in.
"When you reach 55, you do realize there is a
relatively small window in which to play (your best)
senior amateur golf. (55 is the minimum age for
entry into most national senior amateur events.)
STEVE HUDSON IS ENJOYING A STELLAR YEAR OF AMATEUR SENIOR GOLF
"I have had a renewed energy and expectation and
have worked hard on my game. I was eligible (for
senior amateur golf ) last year, but wasn't able to
travel. This year I have been able to do so."
And boy, has he played well. So much so that he
is the No. 4 ranked senior amateur in the country in
the
Golfweek Rankings (Click here to view the rank-
ings). This was through Sept. 1, so he expects his
Senior Porter Cup co-win to move him up a spot or
possibly two.
"It's a nice honor to be highly ranked, but I
feel like I'm still learning in this game and that's the
fun part."
He talked of consciously working on a better
routine and process irrespective of the outcome.
