In November 2014, Aggregates Manager emailed questionnaires to a random selection of readers in the crushed stone and sand and gravel, crushed stone-only, and crushed gravel-only industries. A total of 124 useable surveys were completed. For the first time since before 2009, competition for sales was not the dominant concern facing operators. Instead, 2014 results showed that worker retention is the year's most signifiant concern. As business ratings improve and production increases, the ability to find and keep workers is likely to continue. New to this year's forecast is the category of environmental concerns. While water availability has been tracked for nearly a decade, this category was added in response to frequently voiced operator concerns on myriad environmental issues.
