CHANGING LANES 6 JUNE 2015 // WWW.CHANGINGLANESDIGITAL.COM Feature Story By Jessica Holt Trucker takes prayer trek around the U. S. It's with humility and inspiration that truck driver Randy Montgomery decided to take a 14,500 mile walk around the border of the United States. This trek will take a total of fi ve years, but he is ready for the challenge. Montgomery is 63 years old and left his comfortable life in Mount Shasta, California in July 2014 to begin his journey. Montgomery gathered his inspiration from author Mark Batterson's book The Circle Maker. Once he read the empowering story of the legend Honi the Circle Maker, he knew he needed to make a circle around the country. Honi was bold enough to draw a circle in the sand and sit in it until God provided rain for his land. And sure enough, the prayer was answered. It only took him a week and a half after reading the book before he set foot to begin his circle. Montgomery takes his journey day by day remembering the one reason he decided to embrace this challenge. "I want to give everyone permission to become friends again," he told the Whitefi sh Pilot newspaper. "We can all make this an incredible place if we just work at it." Montgomery has not only captured the attention of the people that have seen him, but he has also captured their hearts. There have been various articles written about the impact he had on their communities while he was passing through them. Montgomery admitted that he walked away from the American dream to pursue this newfound dream. He hit the road in his cowboy boots and with a new backpack. He began the trek without training and soon felt a sharp pain in his hips. When he experienced the pain, he realized from his reading that prayer works, prayed the pain away and hasn't felt a thing since. It's not surprising Montgomery was so willing to live a life on the road on foot; it's only a different perspective from the view he was accustomed to from the cab of a truck. When he left his home in California, he also left his log truck. Montgomery took a break from his long walk during the harsh winter
