Truckstop.com's MDI Falls 45 Percent in 10-Week Period T ruckstop.com's Market Demand Index showed a marked decrease during the period from June 8 through August 10, falling o 45 percent with a mark of 10.84 on Aug. 10, compared to a mark of 19.68 on June 8. e overall equipment rate fell across the board, with the average equipment rate coming in at $1.99 Aug. 10, aer starting the period at $2.18 June 8, a decrease of 8.8 percent. e overall equipment rate hit a high of $2.20 on June 29, but fell continuously over the last six weeks of the period. Flatbed rates also saw a decrease, falling 7.4 percent to $2.01 on Aug. 10, aer starting out at $2.17 on June 8. Flatbed rates hit a high of $2.18 on June 22 and slipped below $2 per mile on Aug. 10, falling to the low of $2.01. Reefer rates fell 15 percent, coming in at $2.04 on Aug. 10, aer starting the period at $2.40. Reefer rates hit their peak at $2.41 on June 29 and July 6, but tailed o in the nal weeks, posting its lowest rate of $2.03 on Aug. 3. Specialized rates dropped o 3.9 percent, coming in at $2.53 on Aug. 10, aer starting the period at $2.63 June 8. Specialized rates hit their highest rate June 29 and July 7, coming in at $2.69 per mile, and fell to their lowest rate of $2.21 on July 20 before seeing a gradual climb in the last three weeks of the period. Van rates were also o, falling 8.8 percent over the 10-week period. Van rates came in at $1.76 per mile on Aug. 10, its lowest mark of the period, aer starting the period at $2.03. Van rates hit their highest point on June 29 and July 6, coming in at $2.04. e Weekly On-Highway Diesel Fuel Price averages fell 8 percent during the 10-week period coming in at $2.63 per gallon on Aug. 10, aer starting the period at a high of $2.89 per gallon. Fuel prices fell in each week of the period, coming in at a six-year low. Prices took their biggest decline from July 27 to Aug. 3, falling 7 cents per gallon from $2.75 per gallon to $2.68 per gallon.
