WOOD HANDLERS (CHAIN SAWS, LOG SPLITTERS, STUMP GRINDERS, CHIPPERS) CHAIN SAW PARTS FROM STENS Stens recently introduced more than 100 additional replacement chain saw parts for Stihl and Husqvarna. These products include mainte- nance kits, clutch and cylinder assemblies, decompression valves, air filters and carburetors, and much more. Stens also unveiled new bar and chain combos for the most popular brands — such as Stihl, Echo, Husqvarna and Homelite — in the most popular sizes. Another ad- dition to the Stens' lineup is Vermeer belts for chippers, shredders and stump grinders. Stens' 265 series belts are manufactured to meet or exceed OEM belt specifications. EQUIPMENT FOCUS www.arborage.com ARBOR AGE FALL 2015 33 STIHL MSE 250 C-Q ELECTRIC CHAIN SAW Stihl's MSE 250 C-Q electric chain saw is ideal for experienced professionals, including builders and contractors, because it's strong enough to handle tough trimming jobs and firewood cutting, but can also be used indoors. The convenience of plugging into a 20-amp outlet means users won't need to spend money on gasoline or worry about exhaust. The MSE 250 C-Q has several features that make it easier and more comfortable to use. The large trigger switch makes it easy to handle and operate while wearing protective gloves. Refilling the oil is simple, thanks to the tool-less oil tank cap. The soft- grip handle makes it more comfortable during longer jobs. The MSE 250 C-Q is also equipped with several safety features, including the Stihl Quickstop Plus coast-down brake — an additional chain braking feature that stops the rotating chain when the trigger is released and is designed to reduce the risk of injury during certain kickback situations. If the bar gets jammed in a piece of wood, the overload protection system turns off the motor before it overheats. TORO STX-38 STUMP GRINDER WITH EFI TECHNOLOGY Toro updated the STX-38 stump grinder, including an all-new, electronic fuel injection engine (EFI) engine. With the addition of the EFI engine, the improved STX-38 offers reduced maintenance by eliminating the carburetor. Built for outstanding durability in the toughest conditions, the stump grinder no longer has a choke, allowing for easier startup in any weather. A fully hydraulic operation also keeps expensive belts from breaking or slipping without the need to adjust tension. Toro has improved the cutter head, resulting in better chip management and a greater ability to grind below grade. The guarding has been re-shaped and raised to improve chip space and ground clearance under the head. Toro has made these improvements to the machine without reducing cutter wheel visibility. The unit operates with an Intelli-Sweep feature that automatically adjusts the speed of the wheel when sweeping across a stump to help achieve optimal performance. A fully hydraulic operation also keeps expensive belts from breaking or slipping without the need to adjust the tension. The STX-38 boasts ground speeds up to 4.5 mph and a weight of 1,750 pounds. WORX 16-INCH ELECTRIC CHAIN SAW The WORX 16-inch electric chain saw has a 3.5-hp. rating and is virtually maintenance free with built-in safety features to keep users out of harm's way. The saw features Auto-Tension, a patented, tool-free chain tensioning and replacement system. A single, oversized knob secures the bar, and automatically maintains chain tension. A blade brake stops the chain immediately when setting down or moving from one location to another. A rubberized rear handle and a wrapped front handle provide operator comfort and control. The chain has a 3/8- inch pitch to reduce kickback. A protective bar and chain scabbard and chain oil are included with the saw. VERMEER SC40TX STUMP CUTTER WITH RIDE-ON PLATFORM Vermeer introduced the SC40TX stump cutter, featuring a first-of-its-kind ride-on platform, providing speed, maneuverability and operator comfort. The SC40TX is the first stump cutter on the market with a stand-on platform to drive the machine. Compared with traditional self-propelled stump cutters, operators will be able to maneu- ver the machine from stump to stump faster. A counter-rotating track undercarriage also enhances maneuverability by making it easier to reposition when cutting a stump. The tracks also offer good floatation and the ability to operate in less-than- ideal ground conditions. The SC40TX has a hydraulic ground drive and cutter wheel, meaning there are no belts or chains to service. While other stump cut- ters may give operators the choice of standing at a swing-out control station on the side of the machine or using a remote control, the SC40TX features two dedicated positions from which to operate the machine. There is the traditional location on the side of the machine, while operators also can choose to stand on the platform on the back of the machine, which is ideal when space is tight and allows for easier repositioning of the machine as needed. At 36 inches wide, the SC40TX will work well in small areas and fit through standard gates. The SC40TX has a 40-horsepower Kohler diesel engine.
