CHANGING LANES 22 SEPTEMBER 2015 // WWW.CHANGINGLANESDIGITAL.COM On The Road by Alice Deters Trucking takes center stage in mystery series As a trucker, you've probably had your fair share of adventure while out on the road. Canadian author R.E (Ruth) Donald decided to take this thinking to the next level in her "Hunter Rayne Highway Mystery" series, which centers around a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) homicide investigator who drives a big rig for a trucking company out of British Columbia. The series debuted in 2011, with the fourth novel in the series released last month. Using both her own experiences in trucking as well as drawing off of stories from her husband – also a trucker – Donald has crafted a series of page-turners, which have drawn in fans around the world. "I get messages from fans all over North America, and even in England. It's very gratifying to have complete strangers contact me to say they love my books and can't wait for the next one. I may never become a household name, but my fan base grows with each new book," said Donald. Donald was also recently contacted by a freelance translator from the U.S., Ingrid Könemann-Yarnell, who enjoyed the books in the series so much that she offered to translate the third and fourth books in the series into German. Each of the novels – Slow Curve on the Coquihalla, Ice on the Grapevine, Sea to Sky, and Sundown on Top of the World - are named after a highway that her hero travels during the story. Donald enjoys the chance to change the setting from book to book. "With a hero who's always on the road, I can use various locations. Much of my second novel, Ice on The most recent installment in the Hunter Rayne series.
