My husband had many stories about his own experiences as a driver, as well as experiences that drivers who were employees or friends had shared with him over the years. How he got started as a driver is one of the most interesting stories, and essentially what inspired me to create the series. As a very young man, my husband earned a black belt in jujitsu and began teaching martial arts to some local RCMP officers. They recruited him to do some undercover work, and being a truck driver was his "cover". During one of the undercover operations, he was shot in the chest. By then he had a young family to support, and so when he was released from hospital, he gave up the risky work of chasing criminals and became a full- time truck driver.
