EquipmentWorld.com | October 2015 17 marketplace | by Amy Materson | AMaterson@randallreilly.com Doosan has added a new Tier 4-compliant crawler excavator, the 129-net-horsepower Doosan DX180LC-5, to its lineup. Re- placing the Tier 4 Interim-compliant DX180LC-3, the new model improves performance and comfort across a range of features. The 43,224-pound machine has a 29-foot 7-inch max digging reach, a 20-foot max dig depth and a 21- foot 3-inch max loading height. The bucket and arm digging force measure 28,881 and 20,503 foot-pounds, respectively. The excavator has four power modes and four work modes. Smart Power Control, a new selectable feature, has two systems that work together to boost machine effi ciency, maintain productivity and reduce fuel consumption. Variable Speed Control reduces engine rpm during low workload requirements, reducing the total energy required and improving fuel effi ciency by between 3 and 7 percent. Pump Torque Control improves machine effi ciency by matching hydraulic pump torque and engine response to the job at hand, which prevents engine overload as well as excessive fuel consumption. Another upgrade Doosan included for the DX180LC-5 is an auto- shutdown feature that enables operators to save fuel when not working. Idle time can be confi gured for between 3 and 30 minutes, and the feature will shut down the excavator's engine when the preset idle time is met. The display has also been improved, with a new 7-inch LCD screen that allows operators to continue monitoring the excavator parameters while viewing the rearview or side-view camera image through the display of machine data next to the camera view. With the addition of a side camera, which is available as an option, a split screen allows both camera displays to be viewed at the same time. Additional machine updates include improved anti-skid plates that allow for easier engine access, a relocated emergency engine stop, improved serviceability, an upgraded alternator and a new front window design that boosts visibility to the work area. Available factory-installed op- tions include a straight travel pedal, two-way auxiliary hydraulic pedal in addition to joystick control, a diesel powered coolant heater for cold starts, cab guarding for special applications and an intelligent fl oating boom.
