The pay hike equals $10,000 in increased annual payments for all 48-state van solo owner-operators – about one-third of Werner's owner- operator fleet. The Omaha, Neb.-based company also announced additional owner- operator dedicated opportunities, increases for owner-operator regional routes and special owner-operator interest rates as low as 7.99 percent for low-mileage truck purchases. BY DEAN SMALLWOOD TRAINING KLLM TRANSPORT SERVICES/ FFE, a Jackson, Miss.-based refrigerated carrier, opened a new driver training academy in Lancaster, Texas. The two-story 44,000-square-foot school offers an 18-day accelerated program that includes classroom and behind-the-wheel training and safety education. The facility features mod- ern classrooms, a physical lab, electronic log and refrigeration labs, a 4-acre backing range, a full-service cafeteria and lodging facilities for 43 students. FACILITIES Thomasville, N.C.-based OLD DOMINION FREIGHT LINE opened a new service center in Watertown, S.D., and expanded facilities in Oshkosh, Wis., and Portland, Ore. The less-than- truckload company's third South Dakota facility has 12 doors, the eight-acre Oshkosh service center has 48 doors, and the Portland facility has 137 doors. ACHIEVEMENTS Dennis Day, a driver sales repre- sentative for CON-WAY FREIGHT, became the less-than-truckload company's ninth driver in its 33-year-history to surpass three million consecutive accident-free miles. Day joined Ann, Arbor, Mich.-based Con-way Freight in 1987 and has been a profes- sional truck driver for more than 34 years.
