22 | Overdrive | February 2016 Logbook Entries for the fourth Overdrive's Most Beautiful contest, which highlights the accomplishments and inner and outer beauty of female drivers, are being accept- ed through Feb. 15. Nominations can be made at overdriveonline. com/beautiful. Last year's pool of more than 80 nominees included rookies, veterans, independent own- er-operators, company drivers, regional haulers and over-the- road truckers. Last year's winner, Joanne Fatta, 51, of Lancaster, Pa., has worked into a respected position as a company driver and driver trainer with Sunrise Transport, which named her Driver of the Year in 2013. Fatta says being able to play a small part in redefining the stereo- type truck driver image, through coverage in trucking and main- stream media, is one reason she's honored to have won the contest. – Carolyn Mason Contest entries due by Feb. 15 Singing competition open to truckers Overdrive-Red Eye Radio's Trucker Talent Search is looking for truckers who love to sing. He became an audience favorite and was voted one of three finalists, with Don Whatley and Paul Marhoefer. – Kathleen Craft Overdrive-Red Eye Radio s A congressionally required study of truck operators and the 2013-insti- tuted 34-hour restart regulations has been completed, said Scott Darling, nominated administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Admin- istration, at a Jan. 20 Senate hearing. The study is under review by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Office of the Secretary. Reimplementation of the regula- tions, suspended by Congress in late 2014, is contingent on the study's completion and review by DOT, the Office of the Inspector General and Congress itself. Darling couldn't offer lawmakers an exact timeline on the study's movement from DOT to OIG and Congress, but he called the report "one of the best studies" ever done on hours of service regulations. President Obama nominated Darling to head FMCSA last August. The post was vacated by Adminis- trator Anne Ferro's resignation in August 2014. – James Jaillet 34-hour restart study complete, Darling says For Scott Darling, left, to head FMCSA on a permanent basis, he must be confirmed by the Senate. CARGONET reported 881 theft incidents in 2015 with an estimated total value of more than $175 million, with 10 thefts worth more than $1 million each. Califor- nia reported the most cargo thefts during the year, with 158 incidents and a total value of $18.7 million. Food and beverage items were the most stolen commodity, totaling 28 percent of all incidents. KEVIN ROPER, the Walmart truck driver at the center of the fatal June 2014 tractor-trailer crash involving actor Tracy Morgan, was indicted on manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges.
