40 | Overdrive | February 2016 DIVERSIONS from the 1974 ITS indicate the fi lmmakers – asking truckers and exhibitors if they read Overdrive – were well aware of the maga- zine's role in the 11-day shutdown that had taken place a few months earlier. Talking with drivers at the truck show "kind of got us motivated," Adler recalls. So Optic Nerve planned a much more in- depth look at the careers and lifestyles of owner-op- erators, which became "On the boulevard." They rented a small motorhome for six weeks. "We drove across the country, fi ve people in this motorhome," Adler recalls. "We basically camped out in truck stops, met a lot of people, ended up being invited to a lot of truckers' homes." The fi nal minute of "Boulevard" shows drivers and waitresses at a truck stop, most of them silent. There's no sound but the clinking of dishes and the song, "I'm so lonesome, I could cry." The last few lines ("And as I wonder where you are … ") take on another meaning, given that some of those pictured in these video snapshots from 37 years ago have passed on. Country music legend and former trucker Aaron Tippin recently joined driver Tony Justice at a Music Row studio in Nashville, Tenn., to lay down vocals for the title track of Justice's upcoming album, "Brothers of the Highway." Can you think of a moment in recent history where two musicians so identifi ed with trucking got together on a song? Justice says that small bit of his- tory in the making refl ects his goal for this album: in part to inspire a "sense of unity and brotherhood" among drivers, likewise pride in a job well done, both of which he's felt paling throughout his decades in the industry. Following the studio session, the singers joined Big Rig Videos fi lm- maker Chris Fiffi e at a local airport to capture footage for the song's music video, which Fiffi e will produce. Greenville, Tenn.- based Everhart Trans- portation Inc., which employs Justice, supplied two trucks for the eff ort, including Justice's typical ride, a 2006 Peterbilt. The album will be released in the second quarter of this year.
