That decision was transformative. Harold Schafer's legacy of generosity is cemented within the Foundation. With his expansive gift of Medora property and other assets to the public, he and his family helped to ensure that generations would have the chance to be inspired by Medora the way that Schafer was. Today, the assets of that monumental gift are valued at over $45 million. Thousands of people have continued Schafer's legacy of giving. • There have been nearly 4,000 different contributors to the Foundation. • Over 1,300 contributors have each given $1,000 or more to the Foundation, including 75 who have given $100,000 or more. • Today, there are nearly 1,000 Annual Members supporting the TR Medora Foundation. Learn more at MEDORA.COM/annualmemberships. In order to fulfill its mission, the Foundation operates over 30 businesses in and around Medora, and employs a full-time staff of 40 with a seasonal staff of 325. In addition, there are 600 volunteers who donate 1-2 weeks of their time each year, working to help serve travelers and improve Medora. "My obligation today is to see that Medora's greatness can be carried on after my lifetime, that its future can be even better than the past." — Harold Schafer, 1988
