the art of good COMMUNICATION The key to success in both personal and professional life is successful and effective communications. In an informal survey of CEOs and senior executives of a diverse group of organizations, 87 percent of respondents stated that improving communications is of critical importance. How do we get there? In this article, we'll move on from Clear (last issue) to Honest. T his trait is not to be confused with overall honesty. While I do believe that honesty is the best policy, I can also make strong arguments for the "little white lie" when it pertains to many interpersonal communications. How many of us will always honestly answer this classic question from our significant other: "Honey, does this outfit make me look fat?" If the outfit is truly the culprit, perhaps that can be more honestly answered. But what if the outfit has nothing to do with it? You want to answer honestly but you also don't want to hurt their feelings. All I can advise is to tread carefully, my friends. … Tread carefully.… BY MOE GLENNER What I am really referring to is the dishonest communication regarding the status of the project or any of its components. For example, let's say that the project has fallen behind schedule for the next milestone and is in danger of going over budget. You and your team are acutely aware of the status, have been diligently working to correct and catch up, but to no avail. Your sponsor calls you in to her office for a status update.
