Fall 2016 — www.ncsf.com 29 "I'll [just] do this for five or six years" John said, "But here I [still] am!" As a Catholic, John enjoyed the common ground with his clients. It is a "closer relationship," says John. "A caring aspect is involved here." That is what makes John a great agent: his ability to connect to people, the mutual enjoyment and respect. During the last 15 years, he made sure to become familiar with the NCSF Home Office staff too. John's animated and always humorous debates are legendary especially regarding the football season of the Packers vs. the Bears. However, when asked what he believes is the core of his success, Johns answers quickly, with a teasing voice, "My wife kicking me out the door!" Yet in all seriousness, John continues, "It boils down to work and common sense. And it IS hard work ... You've got to be a good listener. They think you need to be a good talker [to sell insurance] but it is not true. Find out what they need. That is how you sell insurance. It is about finding what was right for the client." "Life insurance," said John, "is all about being prepared. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark!" HOBBIES AND INTERESTS Besides being a big football fan of the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin and Notre Dame, John's all-time hobby is Allis Chalmers (AC) tractor models. He has already collected over one hundred 1/16th AC tractor models. John attends the toy shows, list in hand, and on the hunt for the collectables. John's charity of choice is Boy's Town in Nebraska (a school for homeless children). Through the years, he also has taught CCD at his parish, St. Mary's in Platteville, and has lent a hand wherever the parish needed. Cara and John love being with their family for summer cookouts and cozy dinners. They attend their grandchildren's sport games whenever they can. This past summer they were kept on their toes when one grandson played in three basketball leagues! Now, in the fall, he is a football quarterback! They have also attended their grandkids' swimming and wrestling meets plus baseball games. John and Cara are always their number one fans. John and Cara just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June. Together they have eight children, 17 grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren. In fact John just sent in an application for NCSF's Start Smart term insurance for juveniles (John's favorite NCSF product) for a set of twin great- grandkids! John sells in Wisconsin and Iowa.
