TOP PRODUCERS • 17 Administration (MSHA) as producing crushed stone. The 10 leading crushed stone producing states were, in descending order of tonnage, Texas, Pennsylva- nia, Missouri, Florida, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, North Carolina, Indiana, and Georgia. The combined production of the 10 leading states increased by 6 percent to 771 million short tons in 2015 from 724 million short tons in 2014, accounting for 53 percent of the national total. The 25 leading companies, in de- scending order of crushed stone pro- duction in 2015, are listed on page 18. These companies, with 1,096 active operations that produced rock from 977 quarries, accounted for 57 percent of the production of crushed stone in the United States. The combined pro- duction of the leading 282 companies was 1.30 billion short tons of crushed stone, which means that 20 percent of the companies produced 89 percent of the total sales in 2015.
