AGGREGATES INDUSTRY OUTLOOK The May Aggregates Industry Index dropped back to an overall score of 135.06, a 3.49-percent drop from April, its most signifi cant drop since August 2016. The most signifi cant downward revisions were reported in terms of aggregates sold during the last quarter; the average response in that category dropped by 0.29 point. Expectations for their company outlook over the next 12 months also fell by 0.19 point, the same decline shown in expectations for tons to be sold over the next year. The only category to experience an increase was in terms of aggregates sold during the current month; it rose by a modest 0.04 point. No matter what other priorities rise temporarily to upstage infrastructure, the need for infrastructure repair, maintenance, replacement, and creation will neither go away nor diminish in importance to our overall well-being as a high-functioning nation. The only real solution is action, and aggregates is the foundation for that action. — Alan C. Burnette, Director, Resource Development, Lehigh Hanson Politics will be having a huge impact on our industry this year, and, hopefully, the turmoil will die down. — Rick W. Hendricks, Maintenance Supervisor, Sterling Materials LLC Being on the Canadian side of the border, the uncertainty being created by protectionism in the USA, especially surrounding NAFTA, will cause private investment to become more cautious and delay committing to projects where possible. — Jeremy Chessell, Aggregates Performance Manager, Lafarge Canada Inc. We are pleased with a strong start to the year and look forward to building on this momentum. — Damian Murphy, Regional President, Summit Materials Editor's note: To join our panel, email Editor-in-Chief Therese Dunphy at tdunphy@randallreilly.com. 100 105 110 115 120 125 130 135 140 145 150 Aggregates Industry Outlook Aug. 2016 Sept. 2016 Oct. 2016 Dec. 2016 Jul. 2016 Jan. 2017 Feb. 2017 Mar. 2017 Apr. 2017 May 2017 June 2017 May 2016 Jun. 2016 128.15 111.00 140.38 139.94 126.03 135.06 111.42 109.80 122.43 139.35 124.24 108.08 119.44 11 6 6 6 Texas Texas Ohio Missouri Missouri Wisconsin Wisconsin Pennsylvania Minnesota Pennsylvania 7 5 10 7 5 8 TOP STATES Wheel Loader Excavators MOBILE EQUIPMENT FINANCED Type of Equipment 01/01/2017- 03/31/2017 Wheel loader (250-1,000 horsepower) 148 Excavator (160-520 horsepower) 74 Wheel loaders Number fi nanced Komatsu WA500-8 15 Cat 980M 15 Cat 982M 8 Cat 980H 7 Volvo L250G 7 Excavators Number fi nanced Cat 336FL 10 Deere 350G-LC 7 Cat 349FL 6 Komatsu PC490LC-11 5 Cat 336EL 5 Top models fi nanced Top models fi nanced Source: EDA Data
