I t's time for the AGG1 Aggregates Academy & Expo, which is, once again, co-located with the World of Asphalt. It is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, through Thursday, March 21, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. This year's co-located shows will cover a record-setting 117,000 net square feet of exhibit space, which has been sold out since mid-January. AGG1, being the only event designed specifically for the aggregates industry, has a lot to offer aggregate producers. It's the one-stop event where attendees can see all the latest innovations in aggregate equipment, products, and technology, as well as attend educational seminars addressing many of the important issues facing aggregate producers today. The New Products & Technology Program allows exhibitors to list their "latest and greatest" that will be on display at the show so that attendees can preview new products and equipment through the online exhibitor directory. Product-focused pavilions in the exhibit hall will group like products and equipment together in one area, making it easier for attendees to find and connect with the desired manufacturers. A mobile app will also be available to help attendees navigate the show floor. At Aggregates Manager press time, the app was still being developed, but it will be available for download on the AGG1 website, www.agg1.org, before the show. This year, attendees will be able to spend their spare time on the beautiful Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio — the perfect place to dine and unwind after a long day at the show. Take a relaxing dinner cruise up the river, or choose a restaurant from the many that offer riverside seating. Educational opportunities AGG1 Academy will offer 48 expert-led educational sessions and seminars ranging from beginners classes that teach the basics to seminars that explore advanced concepts and technologies. The sessions are organized into four focused areas: • The School of Operations and Production; • The School of Automation, Technology, and Software; • The School of Business Management; and 6 AGGREGATES MANAGER March 2013 • The School of Environment, Safety & Health. The purchase of a Full Conference Pass ($600 on site) includes admission to eight education sessions, as well as access to the exhibit hall. A Three Session Pass ($295 on site) includes admission to three education sessions and access to the exhibit hall. A Single Session Ticket ($95 on site) provides admission to one education session only; a show badge ($50 on site) is not included and must be purchased for admission to the exhibit hall. For those attendees who plan to arrive at the show a day early, the president and CEO of Luck Companies, and our 2012 Aggman of the Year, Charles Luck, IV, will offer a seminar on Values Based Leadership on Monday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. He will discuss the key role it plays in transforming employees and improving overall productivity. Case studies of real-life plants will be reviewed highlighting before and after operating results. This seminar will require an additional fee of $199 on site. Seating is limited, so reserve a spot early. A tour of Cemex's Balcones Quarry and Cement Plant will also be offered on Monday, March 18, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Balcones Quarry has been one of the top-producing quarries in the nation for several years and was the featured plant in our February issue. The tour will highlight the quarry's commitment to sustainability, biodiversity, and energy efficiency. An additional fee of $60 (on site) will be required to go on the tour. Space is limited to 150 people, so sign up as early as possible. NSSGA Annual Convention The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association's Annual Convention will be held in conjunction with AGG1, beginning March 17 and running through March 20. The convention provides an opportunity for aggregates people to share ideas with peers from across the country and help make decisions that will steer the industry in the right direction to take advantage of the growth that will come with the recovering economy. If you plan to attend the convention, registration for AGG1 is included in the price of the convention registration.
