Severe Service Hydraulic kicker Big win, tough truck roller package Barging and excavating company LPA Inc. took delivery of a Caterpillar CT660 dump truck last summer at a celebration held for the company's victory in the "Win a Cat Truck" contest. The voting base for the online competition included more than 300 contractors and haulers and was based on video submissions from contestants. Coley Mulkern, chief executive officer of LPA, said the company planned to use the truck in its critical supply line carrying materials from the mainland to the islands and hauling debris away for recycling and disposal. The specially painted CT660 was equipped for extended durability in a corrosive marine environment. Extensive use of stainless steel and sealed electrical harnesses was part of the process. As Navistar, Caterpillar's partner in the CT660, moves toward adoption of selective catalytic reduction technology in its MaxxForce engines, Caterpillar also said in September its CT engines soon will combine the current advanced exhaust gas recirculation in-cylinder solution with a liquid-based aftertreatment. Caterpillar, drivecat.com Enhancements to tough Titan, Granite Landoll's Model 455 Traveling Axle Trailer is available with an optional Hydraulic Kicker Roller Package designed to allow skidmounted equipment for oilfield and other industries to be loaded from the ground onto the trailer deck. When the operator needs to load skid-mounted equipment, the rollers are raised hydraulically 2 1⁄2 inches above the deck with a dualcylinder lift system; each roller has a 10,000-pound capacity. The package is available with four rollers or an eight-roller package Landoll Corp., landoll.com for longer loads. Oil for extreme cold Shell Rotella T6 0W-40 is a full-synthetic heavy-duty diesel engine oil designed for extreme cold conditions. The oil uses free-flowing synthetic base oils formulated to allow reliable pumping on startup under extreme cold climate conditions, yet remain thick enough under high-temperature operation to protect against engine wear. Shell Rotella T6 0W-40 meets the specifications for API CJ-4, API SN, Volvo VDS-3, Mack EO-N and Caterpillar ECF-3, ECF-2 and ECF-1A. Shell Lubricants, rotella.com Mack introduced new interior enhancements, including the pictured "bodybuilder" console, to the Titan and Granite models to upgrade cab comfort for severe service operators. The console integrates with the Mack BodyLink III electrical interface and provides a 150-square-inch top plate that is removed easily for bodybuilder control and wiring installation; it also includes an integral dispatch box, trash bag hooks and netted storage. Other new options include:   • Ambient red floor lighting, subtle or indirect; • A standard "dead pedal" for the driver's left foot to maximize comfort; • Improved functionality for Mack PowerLeash+ engine brake controls, enabling the driver to set and maintain target downhill braking engagement speed in or out of cruise control; and • Self-cancelling turn signals, now standard on trucks, optional on tractors.
