Patience pays On his way to 3 million safe miles, Gordon Trucking's Daniel Poorman wins a top honor – and a Cummins-powered pickup. By Elizabeth Manning and Max Heine W 34 | Overdrive | April 2013 Driver_ofthe_Year.indd 34 Daniel Poorman, the TCA/ Overdrive 2012 Company Driver of the Year, drives for Gordon Trucking. The 2012 owner-operator winner, Bradley Chapdelaine, also won a 2012 Ram and will be featured in the May Overdrive. hen Daniel Poorman was included among eight semi-finalists in the 2012 Company Driver of the Year competition, it was such an honor, he says, it felt like he was already a winner. Then it got even better – and better. "When I made the top three, I went, 'Holy smokes, that's great!' But to win the truck ... What can you say?" Being one of three finalists got him and his wife, Vanessa, a nice reward: a trip from their home in Maple Valley, Wash. – just east of Seattle – to Las Vegas for the Truckload Carriers Association's annual meeting in March. That's where the company driver and owner-operator winners were announced in the annual competition sponsored by Cummins, Chevron Delo, TCA and Overdrive publisher Randall-Reilly. The truck that accompanied the award is a Cummins-powered 2012 Ram 2500 Big Horn Crew Cab. "We only pick the best," says Robert Low, TCA's 2012-13 chairman and the president and founder of Prime Inc. of Springfield, Mo. "You really have to show your dedication to safety and the industry to be selected." The award also recognizes community involvement. Poorman holds fund-raisers 4/1/13 9:11 PM
