One Barrel Brewing Company

When you're craving a cold one on a sweltering summer day, few places offer the
chance to tap into a freshly crafted brew
every time you stop in. But that's the aim
of the aptly titled One Barrel Brewing
Company, a nanobrewery churning out
signature beers, well, one barrel at a time.
"People said [sticking to such a small
scale] couldn't work, but it does!" says
Peter Gentry, One Barrel's owner and
brew master. That's because the Atwood
Avenue bar combines rich, homemade
beer with classic Americana eats and an
easy-going vibe—making it a great venue
for beer lovers and beer snobs alike.
Brews such as the "Penguin Pale Ale"
and "Poppin' Pilsner" meet their tasty
match with pizza or locally sourced cheese
and sausage—a menu Gentry says is "small
town bar food with Madison quality." No
matter which of their drinks you wash it
down with, your Wisconsin-honed taste
buds will thank you.–Cathy Martin
