A slow- ing economy is not unexpected after 11 months of manufac- turing recovery, says Norbert Ore, of the Institute of Supply Management. “Expectations have been that the second half of the year will not be as strong in terms of the rate of growth, and June appears to validate that forecast,” Ore says of ISM’s analysis of June manufacturing data. 2008 INCOME In the first quarter of 2010, net income per mile decreased 5 cents for independent contractors pulling flatbed and 2 cents per mile for reefer and dry van operators, says financial services provider ATBS of its owner- operator clients.
