FEATURE STORY Continued from page 33 more than 50 years. The project, which is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2014, begins the process of expanding the company's product Toro Recycler mower with SmartStow development and test capacities, demonstrating its continued commitment to innovation. "We are investing in our Bloomington facility to enable our businesses to continue to meet the needs of our customers," Michael J. Hoffman, Toro's chairman and chief executive officer, said at the ground-breaking ceremony Sept. 5. "With the anticipated growth of our businesses, through ongoing product development and the addition of recent acquisitions taking us into new markets, this investment will help to expand our technical capacity and further the innovation our customers expect. As we celebrate our Centennial next year, this project will help position us for the future and reinforce our commitment to innovation, our customers, and our employees." Toro's commitment to innovation was on full display at GIE+EXPO with the unveiling of the following technology and products for 2014. • Horizon technology: Toro's new Horizon technology, available on select Z Master Professional 6000 electronic fuel injected (EFI) models, is an intelligence platform enhancing overall performance in a wide range of mowing conditions, increasing fuel efficiency compared to carbureted models. Toro Professional 6000 mowers combine Kohler EFI engines with an electronic governor, which helps maintain more consistent blade tip speed and reduces governor droop. In addition, the control console incorporates Horizon technology that allows the operator to select from three different performance modes based on mowing conditions. In "max mode," the operator has maximum power and performance for the most demanding conditions. An "economy mode" increases fuel efficiency in normal mowing conditions, while reducing ADVERTISERS' INDEX ADVERTISER PAGE # WEB ADDRESS Basic Software Systems 34 www.basic-software.com Ecolawn 34 www.ecolawnapplicator.com Eureka Chemical Co. 34 www.fluid-film.com The Grasshopper Co. 13 dealer.grasshoppermower.com Honda Cover 3 engines.honda.com 7 www.husqvarna.com Kawasaki Engines 9, 11 www.kawpower.com Masport Limited 15 Husqvarna Oregon | Blount, Inc. When cutting in wet conditions, the "low mode" helps reduce deck packing. "Reducing fuel consumption and emissions without sacrificing performance is a challenge contractors face today," says Chris Hannan, marketing manager for The Toro Company."Our new Horizon technology achieves an optimum balance between power and performance. We've also provided an easy way for operators to make adjustments based on mowing conditions." The Horizon platform also tracks engine temperature and oil pressure. If the mower is not performing properly, the operator will receive a visual warning of critical system issues, and the mower will go into "safe transport" mode to reduce the risk of damaging the machine. • Toro Recycler mower with SmartStow: Toro's new Recycler mower with SmartStow feature can be stored vertically, reducing the storage footprint of a mower by up to 70 percent. This breakthrough, space-saving mower is possible thanks to Mow 'N' Stow technology by Briggs & Stratton. With the Mow 'N' Stow engine, there are no concerns about leaking gas or oil when tipping the mower upright. This patented technology features improved seals and gaskets, a unique fuel tank design and a "no-weep" carburetor. All of these features combine to allow for vertical storage, so the mower takes up less space. • Toro lithium-ion 48-volt Max string trimmer: Toro's highest voltage string trimmer is powered by lithium-ion battery technology and built with durable, high-powered features that give it the performance of a gas-powered trimmer without the maintenance. The new Toro 48-volt Max string trimmer easily cuts through grass and weeds with a durable 13-inch dual trim line. This new trimmer also features variable-speed control, allowing operators to match the power to the trimming job, preserving power for when it is really needed. Pair those features with an on-board charge meter that displays the battery status, and the tool provides operators with what is needed to take on any trimming task. Toro also displayed several additional new products, including the Toro Power Clear singlestage snowblower; Toro 36-inch Power Broom; updated Toro Z Master Professional 5000 Series mowers with new closed-loop electronic fuel injection (EFI) Kohler Command propane engines and rear-discharge decks in 60- and 72inch cutting widths; five new models in Toro's TITAN ZX and MX Series of zero-turn riding mowers; a full line of GrandStand stand-on mowers; the Toro TurfMaster 30-inch commercial walk-behind mower; and a 21-inch commercial heavy-duty mower line.
