ECR International showed its new RetroAire RQTH vertical packaged unit, which Matt Conant, national sales manager for air conditioning prod- ucts, described as an economical means to provide cooling and heating to multiple rooms. It was designed to meet the needs of the replacement application for the Carrier 50QT that was discontinued in the late 1980s; the company said there are many thousands of those units in high-rise condominiums up and down the East Coast. Field Controls promoted its "Healthy Home" systems, featuring an ultra-violet (UV) lamp to kill bacteria, viruses and mold, and PRO-Cell, a system for eliminat- ing odors and smoke. The latter technology came through Field Controls' acquisition of Ultra-Sun Technologies of Corona, Calif. Fuji Electric said it expanded its lineup of low-voltage invert- ers with a new HVAC Drive with a slim, space-saving design, real-time clock, embedded BACnet and other functions to independently oper- ate fans and pumps in air-conditioning equipment. General Tools & Instruments displayed its recently expanded "Predator" series of thermal imaging cameras. There are now models with temperature measurement ranges up to 600°C (1112°F), 1000°C (1832°F) and 1500°C (2732°F). The thermal imaging cameras are designed to reveal hidden heat-driven problems, detecting very small temperature differences from a distance and con- verting an object's invisible infrared radiation to a visible color image. These visual thermal images ("thermograms") with multiple temperature points enable the diagnosis of equipment malfunctions and poor performance. Wood and biomass pellet heating boilers manufactured in Latvia are coming to the U.S. market, said Andris Lubins, founder, owner and chief executive officer of Grandeg, which is headquartered in Riga and has a U.S. office in Alexandria, Va. "Grandeg has been produc- ing wood and biomass pellet boilers for almost 20 years," Lubins said. Its boilers are in single- family homes, apartment and municipal buildings and commercial spaces in the Baltics, Scandinavia, Europe, Russia and Ukraine. Intellidyne unveiled a new control for pack- aged terminal air conditioning. The PTAC Energy Economizer is a microprocessor-based control that utilizes Intellidyne's Dynamic Cycle Management technology to automatically adjust compressor cycles to achieve maximum efficiency and reduced electrical usage. The compact size of the control allows for easy installation in packaged terminal heating and cooling systems as well as window mounted or "through the wall" air conditioning units, such as those used in the hospitality industry. The PTAC marks Intellidyne's tenth control in its Energy Economizer product line. Intellidyne also has named Canadian Energy Savings Corporation as its distribution partner for Canadian markets. Under the agreement, Intellidyne will produce several of its patented Energy Economizer models under CESC's private label: ThermStopper PLUS. In addition to selling Energy Economizers throughout the Canadian commercial markets. Mike Ruff, chief operating officer of Intellidyne, said, "We are extremely excited to have a partner like CESC to serve the Canadian market. With over 30 years of experience, CESC is able to offer Intellidyne's products in a new unique way." New products showcased at the Rinnai booth included the E50C Condensing Combi Boiler for residential and multifamily home-heating and water-heating. Product Manager Tracy Young said the unit is cost effective to install, requiring fewer pumps and no primary secondary piping for common installations. It is designed for smaller residential applications with up to 1.5 baths. Compatible with a half-inch gas line, the E50C boiler can be fueled by natural gas or propane.
