The crowd numbered more than 61,000 people, the organizers said, comprising nearly 43,000 visitors and more than 18,000 exhibi- tor personnel. Attendees included HVACR professionals from all 50 states and over 130 countries. "We were obviously very concerned when the weather forecast predicted there would be a snow storm on opening day and arctic cold the last two days of the show," said Clay Stevens, president of International Exposition Company. "However, we were encouraged when we saw thousands of people pouring into the show as if the weather wasn't even a factor. It was announced beforehand that the 2014 event had already broken the Northeast record for exhibit space reserved at 385,000 square feet. That total exceeded the old record by nearly 6 percent. The 2014 AHR Expo was co- sponsored by ASHRAE and AHRI. The Heating, Refrigeration and Air- Conditioning Institute of Canada was an honorary sponsor. Bard Manufacturing Co., a family owned company based in Bryan, Ohio, hosted a breakfast during the show to commemorate its 100th anniversary. Founded in 1914, Bard Manufacturing has grown from a small heating and plumbing contracting business into a world-wide supplier of wall- mounted heating and cooling equipment. On display during the show's run from Jan. 21-23 were the latest products and technologies from more than 1,900 exhibiting com- panies. Here are some highlights. By Stephen Bennett AhR expo Sets Attendance Record The 2014 AHR Expo Overcame a Snowstorm to Draw a Record Crowd at Its New york City Venue Bacharach, headquartered in New Kensington, Pa., exhibited a number of products including one called Snifit+. The device is a compact personal safety monitor designed to alert users when poten- tially dangerous carbon monoxide (CO) levels are detected. An impact-resistant housing is designed to protect the unit during daily field use. It features high and low alarms and alerts the user via audible, visual and vibrating indicators. For those in the air conditioning and refrigeration business, Bacharach was also talking up its ECO-2020 refrigerant recovery unit for residential and light-commercial contractors. It is designed to recover all CFC, HFC and HCFC non-flammable refrigerants, including R410a (Puron) and includes a replaceable in-line filter to prevent contaminants from entering the machine, the manu- facturer said. The machine features high/low pressure shut-off, single-knob operation and a purge system that prevents cross- contamination of refrigerants without changing a hose. At the Carlin Combustion Technology booth show attendees could learn about the EZGas Pro burner, a conversion kit for chang- ing an oil-fired unit to propane or natural gas. When the existing oil appliance is in good operating condition, the EZGas Pro burner can be installed quickly and easily for significantly less expense than replacing the heating appliance, the manufacturer said. With an input range of 50,000 to 75,000 Btus per hour, the EZGas unit is suited for virtually any residential conversion. Dettson highlighted two series of oil- fired furnaces. Its AMP multi-position series is housed in a high-profile cabinet. Its small footprint expands installation possibilities, the company said. Further, combustion prod- ucts can be vented through an optional sealed combustion system if natural venting through a chimney is not an option. Dettson's AMT A well-wisher signs a birthday message board at the Bard booth. The company is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
