I DA U N I V E R S A L M a rc h -A p r i l 2 0 1 4 43 Iran produced 15.42 mil- lion tons of crude steel last year, showing a 6.6-percent rise compared with the fi gure for 2012, which was 14.46 mil- lion tons. According to statistics released by World Steel Associ- ation (WSA), China topped the list of crude steel producers of 2013 with 779.04 million tons. Iran ranked 15th among 2013 crude steel producers, which shows no change, com- pared to the 2012 ranking. Komatsu America Corp. has introduced two more doz- ers to its intelligent Machine Control family, the D39EXi/ PXi-23crawler dozers. Equipped with fully automatic blade control, both dozers can perform not only fi nish grad- ing, but also rough dozing. With this introduction, Kom- atsu now has four intelligent Machine Control dozer models available in the North Ameri- can market. "We are pleased to be adding two more dozers that seamlessly transition from rough dozing to fi nish grad- ing with automatic blade control engaged," says Peter Komatsu Adds Two New Dozers NUTS & BOLTS continued from page 37 Robson, Director of Intel- ligent Machine Controls. " e effi ciency improvement, greater value and simplicity of operation exemplify the lead- ing innovations that custom- ers have come to expect from Komatsu." Intelligence: Enhancements for Optimized Performance Inside the cab, customer selectable dozing modes allow system response to be tai- lored to the current machine operation for optimized performance. Similarly, blade load settings are adjustable between pre- sets to match actual mate- rial condi- tions. Pass to pass, the intelligent Machine Control system can be le with the automatic blade control engaged, because of its ability to precisely automate lowering the blade at the start of a pass and raising it at the end of a pass. Improvement in combi- nation rough dozing effi ciency is up to 9% higher, compared to add-on machine control systems. Integrated: Standard Factory- Installed Integrated Machine Control System Typical add-on machine control system components mounted on the blade have been replaced on the D37i-23 and D39i-23 with factory- installed cab top GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) antenna, enhanced inertial measuring unit (IMU+), and stroke sensing hydraulic cylinders. ese components, along with the machine con- trol monitor and controllers mounted inside of the cab, are installed at the Komatsu manufacturing facility during machine assembly, ensuring quality installation and reli- ability. When the machine travels around the job site, the cab top GNSS antenna collects accu- rate surface data by measuring actual elevations. e stroke sensing angle cylinder mea- sures the angle of the blade for high precision grading accuracy on cross-slope, blade angled or not. ● Crude Steel Output Tops 15m Tons At second, third and fourth places were Japan, the U.S. and India, with 110.57 million tons, 86.95 million tons and 81.21 million tons, respec- tively, the report said. In December 2013, Iran produced 1.35 million tons of crude steel, which is 13.5 percent higher than the corresponding fi gure of last year, which was 1.18 million tons. Global steel production in December 2013 amounted to 129.19 million tons, which shows a 0.8-percent growth, compared with the Octo- ber output that reached 128.132 million tons. Total production of steel in 2013 amounted to 1.58 billion tons, marking a 4.7-percent rise compared with the 2012 output of 1.51 billion tons. e fi gures show the main reason for increasing global steel production is due to the rise in the production of Asian countries, mainly China. Most major Asian coun- tries registered a rise in production, while South Korea had a 4.4-percent decline in production. WSA is the international trade body of the iron and steel industry. e production of its members, approximately 170 steel producers, national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes, comprises around 85 percent of the world steel production. ● www.zawya.com, Jan 30 2014
