CONTRIBUTORS 38 CULTURED HENRY URBACH has been director of the Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut since April 2012. Previously he was curator of architecture and design at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and, before that, owned a contemporary art and architecture gallery in New York. He has taught courses in architectural history and theory and curatorial practice at Yale and UCLA, and has written extensively about architecture and culture. "This summer the Glass House presents a major site-specific installation, Fujiko Nakaya: Veil, which shrouds the iconic, transparent house in an occasional veil of dense mist." ROYA SACHS is a freelance curator and writer based in New York City. She grew up in London, studied at NYU and has since worked at the MoMA, Sotheby's and Gerson Zevi Gallery. Sachs focuses on creating unconventional, immersive and experiential art exhibitions and is currently working on an exhibition exploring the relationship between interactive art and technology. "This summer I'm checking out Figment Festival on Governors Island. It's a nonprofit interactive arts festival that I can't wait to see!" Los Angeles-based photographer JAMES LAW spends most of his time abroad, shooting in Turkey, Croatia, Japan, Thailand and Holland. In addition to celebrity, fashion and advertising work, he also shoots action sports and adventure travel. Law shot Pharrell Williams and Daniel Arsham in a process series at the artist's studio, a moment from which appears on our cover. "As a retreat from my work, I'll be doing a project along the Avenue of the Baobabs in the Menabe region in western Madagascar. A couple of cameras and a few batteries—and a new world for me to experience." "What is going to be the cultural highlight of your summer?" DAN RUBINSTEIN is a writer, editor and consultant based in New York City specializing in design and culture. He was most recently the editor in chief of Surface, where he had been for nearly six years. He has contributed to T: The New York Times Style Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Modern, Interior Design, Dwell, New York, Architectural Record, Out and Veranda, among others. Rubinstein has also served as a guest critic at design schools such as Parsons The New School for Design and the Rhode Island School of Design. "While I normally spend summers chained to my laptop, I fantasize about escaping New York to visit Domaine de Boisbuchet in rural France to take one of their legendary workshops. 'Process as Spectacle' given by Studio Glithero looks amazing." SIMON WATSON is a celebrated portrait, travel and interior photographer living between New York and Dublin. His photography regularly appears in The New York Times, W, Vanity Fair Spain and Travel + Leisure. Watson's work has also appeared in numerous group exhibitions, and had a solo show at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum in Poland. Last June, Watson debuted his first solo show of paintings at Galerie Rideau de Fer in Castelfranc, France. "I'm not sure what the summer holds, but my highlight this fall will be my second solo show of paintings at Galerie Rideau de Fer in September."
