It is a made-up patchwork of interconnected spaces wherein everything: all surfaces, ma- terials, tools, objects and people are aligned, signified and utilized in the service of experiencing art making. It's an "art-world" unto itself. Sachs' references and subjects are institutional, corporate and ubiquitous, but his approach is subjective, personal and intimate. In every room there is new work underway, for example downstairs, a new series of handmade boomboxes, which is extraordinary. Though everything is infused with wry humor, the overall effect is intense and serious. It's been said, and it may be true, that no one has a better studio than Tom Sachs.
