Mower Focus | Commercial Riding Mowers Ferris touts Yanmar diesel engines for its IS 2500Z line-up The Ferris IS 2500Z mid-mount zero-turn mower line-up for model year 2011 includes 3 models featuring Yanmar 3- cylinder, in-line diesel engines with cast-iron blocks: a 20-hp. model with 52-inch iCD cutting system; a 24-hp. model with a 61-inch iCD cutting system; and a 24-hp. model with 52-inch iCD cutting system. The patented 4-wheel sus- pension system on the IS 2500Z dramatically increases operator comfort, mowing speed, quality of cut and produc- tivity. With a top speed of 10 mph, the operator can mow up to 5 acres per hour (based on 80 percent efficiency). By absorbing bumps and vibration, the suspension system also helps extend mower life. Additionally, the mower deck features cast-iron greaseable spindles for longer life. Grasshopper 226V MidMount Grasshopper introduced a cost-effective line of mowers — the V-Series — with its latest mower, the 226V Mid- Mount. The new line-up offers commercial power, a perfect cut, smooth handling and full-size features in an eco- nomical package. Model 226V features a 26-hp. Professional Series V-Twin engine with Advanced Debris Management System, 12-gallon fuel capacity, and forward mowing speeds up to 9 mph (5 acres/hour). Model 226V is also equipped with a design-matched, commercial-grade Parker pump and wheel motor drive system to increase long-term value; and robotically welded, fabricated 5-1/2-inch-deep cutting decks with optional Down Discharge mulching and PowerVac capability. Comfort-enhancing features include a contoured cushioned seat with coil-spring suspension, foldable armrests, HydraSmooth dampened dual steering levers that adjust to the operator’s reach, and Shock Impact Reduction System with shock-absorbing foot-rest. Gravely Pro-Turn 200 XDZ The Gravely Pro-Turn 200 XDZ series of commercial zero-turn mowers are now available with a Kohler 29-hp. closed- loop electronic fuel injection (EFI) engine. The Kohler engine improves fuel economy on the Pro-Turn 252 and 260 by as much as 20 percent, according to calculations by Gravely product engineers. Kohler calculates with gasoline at $3.70 a gallon, the Closed-Loop EFI will pay for itself in less than 400 hours. After payback, savings continue at approximately $0.96 per hour at $3.70 per gallon for gas. Kohler’s EFI is the only engine to use an oxygen sensor to provide continuous combustion feedback, which monitors and adjusts engine operating parameters to guarantee op- timal performance and best fuel consumption. The engine requires no choke to set at start up and can hot re-start with no problem. No carburetor means easier maintenance. Husqvarna P-ZT At the core of Husqvarna’s P-ZT series is a rugged 2-inch-by-3-inch tube-style frame, heavy-duty front caster assem- blies that include pneumatic tires as standard equipment, and flat-free versions are available as an option. The fab- ricated cutting deck is constructed from twin 11-gauge steel sheet construction, which equates to a 1/4-inch-thick top deck area for added structure and spindle support. Cast-aluminum blade spindles feature tapered roller bearing construction for increased service life, and the top idler system ensures extended belt life. The cutting deck also in- cludes heavy-duty scalp roller mounts and a rubber discharge shield. The P-ZT mowers utilize commercial-duty inte- grated ZT3400 transmissions with 12cc pumps. The drive system carries a 2-year commercial warranty. Hustler Super Z The Hustler Super Z features Hustler’s VX4 deck and HyperDrive Industrial Hydro System. VX4 deck technology boasts a progressively larger tunnel in front of the blades, along with a wider discharge opening, which move grass through the deck faster resulting in greater discharge dispersion. Higher air and grass volume throughput results in less material carried in the cutting chambers. This allows higher ground speed without compromising cut quality. Superior cut quality due to grass being better lifted during cutting results in a crisp clean cut and appearance every time. Adjustable front inner wall allows deck performance to be optimized for all grass conditions and seasons. The Industrial Hydro System is engineered to handle thousands of hours of the toughest jobs without degrading. Hustler has added a bigger reservoir with new slipper-piston pumps to make Hustler industrial-grade mowers more durable. John Deere ZTrak PRO 900 series mowers Seven versatile models in the Z900 lineup feature the 7-Iron PRO deck with stamped, 7-gauge steel, full-wrap rein- forcement and Mulch-on-Demand capabilities. With top mowing speeds of 10.5 or 12 mph, each model has the power and performance operators demand to be productive on the jobsite. For superior durability and controllability, the Z900s include a new ground-drive transmission featuring a piston motor, internal wet disc brakes and a gear re- duction final drive, providing more torque to the drive tires. Users will also appreciate the “Comfort & Convenience” package with ergonomic control levers including built-in PTO shutoff and electronic deck raise and lower. And for ef- fortless operation, the series offers dial-in height of cut adjustment on the control panel, on-board self-diagnostics, run-flat tires and John Deere’s exclusive Brake & Go system. 28 Landscape and Irrigation May/June 2011 www.landscapeirrigation.com
