To take advan- tage of this trend, the company recently created digital content models of its most popular fi re alarm control panels. BIM is information-rich, three- dimensional architectural model- ing of a structure, and is increas- ingly being used to design build- ing projects instead of the traditional 2-D format. “As a manu- David Correia facturer, we’ve been seeing a lot of requests for our models to be in the BIM format,” David Correia, product manager for Notifier, which is based here, told Security Systems News. Mack says reunited companies better positioned to compete with the likes of G4S By Martha Entwistle STOCKHOLM, Sweeden—Is it strange that guarding giant Securitas, which divested itself of its systems integration busi- ness (Securitas Systems, now Niscayah) fi ve years ago, in May made a bid to buy that very same business back? It may be an unusual situation, but it’s a deal that makes a lot of business sense for both Securitas and Niscayah, Imperial Capital’s John Mack told Security Systems News. And it’s a deal that Mack predicted is likely to get done. “You can see the ratio- nale,” Mack said. “Nis- cayah, on its own, hasn’t achieved the higher valua- tion it had hoped for ... and it’s attractive now because the price is not that high.” And Securitas made the deci- sion to divest Niscayah at a time “where they didn’t see the evolu- tion of the market,” he added. That evolution is the trend toward the combined offering of Romano outlines goals for 2011 New UTC Fire & Security Global Security Products president aims to accelerate product introduction By Martha Entwistle BRADENTON, Fla.—Before taking over her new role as president of Global Security Products for UTC Fire & Security, Kelly Romano spent a year as SVP of global sales and marketing. During that time, she spent a lot of time with integra- tors, VARs and dealers, who she said are interested in the seamless integration of access, video and intru- sion and locking systems. While UTC Fire & Security already provides that kind of integration with many of its Kelly Romano products, the company will be bringing more integrated solutions to market, she said. This demand, and the fact that technology changes so rapidly, means “we need to accelerate the new-product introduction time to market.” Noting that it’s been more than a year since UTC Fire & Security acquired GE Security, Romano said she recently spent three days at ROMANO see page 40 guard, monitoring and systems integration services. Securitas AB on May 16 made NISCAYAH see page 19 Iverify’s $39m contract ‘largest in the industry’ By Daniel Gelinas CHARLOTTE, N.C.—In what it says is the “largest video monitoring contract in history,” Iverify at the end of April announced it won a fi ve-year contract valued at $39 million to provide guard replacement and shrink-reduction services to 529 Family Dollar stores, nationwide. Iverify president Mike May said Iverify brought big savings to the table for the Family Dollar. “[They are] using a robust application that uses Cernium analytics for location-based risk assess- ment that triggers local announcements in the vicin- ity of high-shrink products. Further, with sophisti- cated time-based analysis, it then escalates the risk profi le and engages a live intervention from a pro- tection specialist,” May told Security Systems News. “They then assess and respond to a protocol based in the actual risk.
