FIVE QUESTIONS Neil Atha is the new vice president of Atronic Alarms, a security, fire and home automation company serving the Kansas City, Kan. area. Atha, the son of Atronic president and founder, Perry Atha, joined the company in January with three years’ experience as a regional account manager for a national security integrator in Dallas. Neil Atha graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 2007 with a degree in economics. He works closely with the company’s equipment design consultants to provide customized systems for residential and commercial applications. Security Systems News caught up with Neil in May and asked him five questions. Have you ever seen a tornado? Being from Kansas, you would think I would have seen quite a few, but the first one I actually saw was in Dallas last year. I was driving back from work and I saw one off to the left as I was driving down the highway. It was small tornado, but hopefully it’s the last one I’ll ever see. What’s the worst storm you’ve experienced growing up in Kansas? I’ve experienced several bad storms, but one of the more memorable was a winter storm about 10 years ago. We lost power for close to a week. What do you like to do when you’re not at work? I enjoy all sorts of outdoor activi- ties, including both water- and snow- skiing, sailing and golf. I am also a pilot and enjoy flying whenever I have the opportunity. How did you become interested in being a pilot? I became interested in being a pilot about five years ago, during a flight from Dallas to Springfield, Missouri. My friend let me sit shotgun with his dad and I was hooked! What and where do you fly? I fly a small single-engine, Cessna 172. Most of my hours are training-related, but I have been able to make a few fun stops. One of my favorites is Clark Field, in Stephenville, Texas. It’s a short golf cart ride to Hard Eight BBQ, my favorite barbeque restaurant in Texas. — Tess Nacelewicz Periodicals Postage Rates paid at Yarmouth, ME and additional mailing office.
