SECURITY SYSTEMS NEWS JULY 2011 www.securitysystemsnews.com 20 UNDER 40 SSN 31 Andrew Toner, 38 President, Atlantic Coast Alarm Mays Landing, N.J. Andrew Toner grew up in the industry and admits, “I never really thought I’d do it.” But when he got out of college with a business degree and began helping out at his father’s alarm company, he felt the pull of the industry. “I knew a lot more than I thought I did about the business,” Toner says. “I started helping out and the next thing you know I started doing installations, catering to commercial accounts—card access, camera layouts, things like that—and then I just gradually started running the place.” Toner tries to bring honesty and integrity to Atlantic and wants to be known among his peers for such qualities. He also wants to bring cutting-edge tech to his customers and feels technology is the key to attracting more exceptional talent. “I think for years, being in the security business wasn’t real glamorous to people, but with the way technology is evolving, I think kids are starting to be aware,” Toner says, noting pop culture is playing a big role in advancing the industry, as well. “A lot of shows on TV today are showing security systems and camera systems.” —Daniel Gelinas Travis Miller, 27 Senior manager, dealer development, Monitronics International Dallas, Texas Travis Miller admits he wasn’t thinking about a career in security when he got recruited to knock on doors for an alarm company in college. He says he and “eight of my college roommates were all wondering what to do and one of us got signed on with a summer alarm company.” Miller continues, “It was like a chain reaction. We all packed up and moved to Chicago to sell door-to-door.” Miller says the sales lifestyle was a really good fi t for him. “There’re a lot of issues with quality of work and integrity in the industry,” Miller says. “I just would like to leave my mark by being sure I’m leaving a full body of work and being diligent and having a full sense of integrity in all I do. I want people to say about me that I’m above everything honest.” Miller sees great opportunity in the industry for enterprising men and women in the coming generations. “I think there’s so much opportunity for young executives here,” he says. “I think having more scholarship opportunities and having more of a presence on campuses around the country, more of an awareness, will help.” —Daniel Gelinas 2010 Jon Adams, Central Station Manager, Atlas Security Jeremy Bates, VP & GM Sonitrol of Lexington Matt Bergeron, General Manager, NEXgeneration Central Rick Charney, Sales Manager, Stealth Monitoring Jeff Cohen, President, Quick Response Center Ty Davis, Vice President of Operations, Southwest Dispatch Chuck Donati, Installation Manager, DMC Security Services Alex Dunn, COO, APX Alarm Danny Garrido, Director, Dealer Operations, ADT Chris Hendriksen, President, Valued Relationships, Inc.
