SECURITY SYSTEMS NEWS JULY 2011 www.securitysystemsnews.com ESX returns to roots in 2012, 2013 By Tess Nacelewicz NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Popular demand is bringing the Electronic Security Expo (ESX) back here to the city where it started four years ago—for 2012 and 2013. Ralph Sevinor, chairman of the board of ESX, which is owned and sponsored by the Central Station Alarm Association and the Electronic Security Association, said the board listened to exhibitors and attendees GELSSA Continued from page 36 a Honeywell First Alert dealer based here. He told Security Systems News he has been on the board of GELSSA and vice president for many years, and decided to seek the presidency of because “it was a time to say, ‘OK, let’s get this program going, and on a different track.’” New announcements came out of a GELSSA meeting in April in Savan- nah, Ga. One was the appointment of Agnes Murner as executive director. “The executive director role is an absolutely vital role,” Loud said. “We are enthralled to have her on board.” He said Murner is detail-oriented and tenacious about moving projects through. “If someone volunteers to do a newsletter or something, she is all over it,” Loud said. He said the decline in member- ship was due to the alarm associa- tion becoming unchartered. That is reversed now, and Loud hopes GELS- SA “can begin to build a strong char- tered state association as part of ESA (Electronic Security Association).” GELSSA is reaching out to the state’s security dealers and Loud said he hopes the group will grow to the 200-300 members it had in years past. Loud praised former president Brad Glore for stabilizing the group’s finances. He said GELSSA is working with the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC), ESA and the Georgia Associa- tion of Chiefs of Police to get model false alarm legislation passed by the Legislature in 2012. SSN COLORADO Continued from page 36 Safe Systems has 10,000 customers and the addition of D-Tech, a family-owned Pueblo institution for more 20 years, now adds 400 more, Halpern and Watson said. Safe Systems designs, installs and moni- tors commercial and residential security systems exclusively for Colorado’s Front Range, the state’s most populous region around the Boulder-Denver region. Acquiring D-Tech allows “more market share” south of that area, Halpern said. The company plans to open an office in Pueblo. D-Tech’s former customers will receive new technology that Denver-Bolder metro custom- ers get, such as Honeywell’s Total Connect video and alarm services, Watson said. Also, Halpern said, “we’re going to be rolling out our radio network there,” which allows moni- toring of fire alarms without phone lines. He said the feedback was that they liked Nashville as a venue and also “they wanted to have some type of consistency.” George De Marco, ESX chair- man, said, “Everybody loves going to Nashville…It’s the music capi- tal of the world.” Not only does the city appeal as a destination, but it is convenient- ly located for attendees around the county, according to ESX. Also, it soon will get a new G. De Marco Music City Center, which is cur- rently under construction and is where ESX 2013 will be held. RESI RESIDENTIAL SYSTEMS 37 ESX, which Sevinor said stands out because it is owned and sponsored by two industry associations, started in Nashville in 2008. It was held in Baltimore in 2009, in Pitts- burgh in 2010, and it was in Charlotte, N.C. last month. The number of attendees and exhibitors this year was up over last, and De Marco predicted ESX 2012, to be held at the Nash- ville Convention Center, June 25-29, will attract even more. “I would say it’s going to be a great year,” he said.
