DESIRES CHANGES in physical functioning, mental capabilities, life interests, financial circumstances and social supports are all determining factors in what setting and services are most appropriate. Equally as important is considering where the individual is ultimately going to be happy and content. If possible, you may prefer to remain in your current home and avail yourself of home health care or community support services, as required. However, these may not be realistic options for those living alone or with higher care needs. Quality of life, social, mental and physical well-being can be had in a retirement residence that will meet the social, nutritional and home-making needs of older adults, many of whom have lost their spouse. Many of these also provide additional supportive services including care and also cater to couples. These choices are private pay and vary in accommodation choices and services.
