PassportMaps help festgoers followthe pathways taken by Germanswho eventually arrived inAmerica. Kids can collect the stickers and receive a prize! An exhibition by theGerman Emigration Center, Bremerhaven, 2007winner of the EuropeanMuseum of the Year award, features emigrant biographies from1830-1974 and tells the stories of themore than 7,000,000who left via Bremerhaven forAmerica. In addition, themembers of The Sons&Daughters of the Veterans of the CivilWar assist festgoers in researching family roots and their ancestors’ possible involvement inAmerica’s CivilWar. Cultural highlights include demos bywood and stone carving sensation Bryan Berenson. Local black- smithWolfgang Schweizer demonstrates his craft by actually forging iron on the grounds. TheGerman Fest Trachtenschau presents ethnic clothing and folk traditions fromtheGerman-speaking regions of Europewhile theHandwerkerArea showcases an extensive display of antiquemusical instruments. RUN,WALKONTHURSDAY EVENING TheGerman Fest 5K Chip timed/scored race begins at 7 p.m. Thursday evening, and the two-mile timed walk begins at 7:10 p.m. This benefits St. Ben’s CommunityMeal program. ACatholicMass at 10:30 a.m. Sundaymorning fea- turesArchbishop ofMilwaukee Jerome E. Listecki. The service includes a chorus of 65 alongwith a 35- piece brass ensemble. In addition, those attending the service receive free admission toGerman Fest following theMass. FABULOUS RAFFLE Prizes for theGerman Fest raffle include a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta S donated by Ernie von Schledorn, four roundtrip tickets to anyAir TranAirlines domestic destination in the continentalUSAand a case ofwine permonth for one year fromSchlink Housewines.
