Quality, and Standard 62.2, Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality in Low-Rise Residential Buildings, and publications such as the Indoor Air Quality Guide: Best Practices for Design, Construction and Commissioning. ASHRAE also recently announced the formation of the Indoor Environmental Quality Global Alliance, which included IAQA as a charter mem- ber. ASHRAE also has a strong research program related to indoor air quality with 10 current projects totaling $2.8 million, representing 23% of ASHRAE's research budget. "This merger allows IAQA to main- tain its own brand while also providing its members with enhanced benefits and services," Kent Rawhouser, president of IAQA, said. "Our strong history of programs and products is expected to not only continue, but to grow as the merger allows us to take advantage of the resources and programs overseen by ASHRAE. Members of IAQA and ASHRAE will work collaboratively to strengthen indoor air quality programs for the industry, and, most importantly, for the people who occupy homes and buildings around the world." IAQA provides continuing education, conferences and expositions, certification programs, monthly webinars, technical publications and funds indoor air quality related research. IAQA subsidiary, Indoor Environmental Standards Organization, is an American National Standards Institute accredited standards developing organiza- tion focused on indoor air quality assess- ment, remediation and management of indoor environments. ASHRAE and IAQA programs will be aligned to create high-impact resources for building professionals around the globe. "Indoor air quality is vitally impor- tant to the health and welfare of people worldwide," Phoenix said. "Air quality systems must work harmoniously with other systems in homes and buildings to ensure a healthy and sustainable built environment." IAQA is a nonprofit organization dedi- cated to bringing practitioners together to prevent and solve indoor environmental problems for the benefit of customers and the public. IAQA was established in 1995 and is the nation's largest indoor air quality trade association with over 2,600 members and more than 20 local chap- ters across the United States and Canada. Lawmakers ask white house to Boost BiodieseL Expressing urgent concerns about a pro- posed cut, 52 U.S. representatives from across the country called on President Obama this week to continue growing biodiesel volumes under the Renewable Fuel Standard. "During your time in office you have supported the development and growth of the biodiesel industry. Now, biodiesel producers around the nation have the ability to generate nearly two billion gal- lons a year of the only EPA-approved advanced biofuel, which is commercially available across the United States," the lawmakers wrote in a letter to President Obama. "Therefore, we believe now is not the time for a critical shift in biodiesel policy. We urgently ask that you raise biodiesel's RVO for 2014 above 1.28 bil- lion gallons." The lawmakers signing the letter repre- sent 22 states. In a draft RFS rule released in November, the EPA proposed hold- ing biodiesel volumes at 1.28 billion gallons—a sharp drop from last year's actual production of nearly 1.8 billion gallons. Biodiesel producers around the country have warned that such a pro- posal will cause severe contraction in the industry. A nationwide survey of produc- ers conducted by the National Biodiesel Board in April found that more than half have already idled a plant this year and 78% have reduced production from last year. Nearly two-thirds— 66%— have already laid off employees or anticipate doing so. "Biodiesel is the most successful EPA- designated advanced biofuel being pro- duced today," said Anne Steckel, NBB's vice president of federal affairs. "This is an RFS success story that is delivering tremendous benefits to the nation in terms of cleaner air, jobs, and diversity in the fuels markets that is helping con- sumers. We need consistent federal pol- icy to continue the progress we've made, and we are urging the Administration to finalize a strong RFS volume as quickly as possible." Calendar of Events AUG.
