HeAtIng AnD coolIng equIpment sHIpment DAtA The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute is the trade asso- ciation representing manufacturers of air conditioning, heating and commercial refrigeration equipment. AHRI provides regular reports on the sales of a variety of equipment. Offered below is the data for December (2013), and January and February 2014. Residential Storage Water Heaters— Residential Storage Water Heaters U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for December 2013 increased 10.4%, to 398,059 units, up from 360,568 units shipped in December 2012. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 7.2% in December 2013, to 348,872 units, up from 325,435 units shipped in December 2012. U.S. shipments of residential gas stor- age water heaters for January 2014 increased 2.2%, to 370,850 units, up from 363,004 units shipped in January 2013. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 7.3% in January 2014, to 361,703 units, up from 337,111 units shipped in January 2013. U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for February 2014 increased 5.8%, to 366,057 units, up from 345,853 units shipped in February 2013. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 7.1% in February 2014, to 340,508 units, up from 317,965 units shipped in February 2013. For the year-to-date, U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters increased 4.0%, to 736,907, compared to 708,857 units shipped during the same period in 2013. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 7.2% year-to-date, to 702,211 units, compared to 655,076 units shipped during the same period in 2013. Commercial Storage Water Heaters— Commercial gas storage water heater shipments increased 7.1% in December 2013, to 7,795 units, up from 7,277 units shipped in December 2012. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 21.9% in December 2013, to 6,112 units, up from 5,015 units shipped in December 2012. Commercial gas storage water heater shipments decreased 13.0% in January 2014, to 7,206 units, down from 8,282 units shipped in January 2013. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 1.6% in January 2014, to 5,334 units, up from 5,249 units shipped in January 2013. Commercial gas storage water heater shipments decreased 5.1% in February 2014, to 7,957 units, down from 8,386 units shipped in February 2013. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 8.7% in February 2014, to 5,887 units, up from 5,417 units shipped in February 2013. Y e a r - t o - d a t e U . S . s h i p m e n t s o f commercial gas storage water heaters de- creased 9.0%, to 15,163 units, compared with 16,668 units shipped during the same period in 2013. Year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments increased 5.2% to 11,221 units, up from 10,666 units shipped during the same period in 2013. Warm Air Furnaces—U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for December 2013 increased 17.4%, to 240,438 units, up from 204,754 units shipped in December 2012. Oil warm air furnace shipments decreased 8.2%, to 3,520 units in December 2013, down from 3,836 units shipped in December 2012. U.S. shipments of gas warm air fur- naces for January 2014 increased 18.4%, to 209,667 units, up from 177,125 units shipped in January 2013. Oil warm air fur- nace shipments decreased 18.0%, to 2,376 units in January 2014, down from 2,898 units shipped in January 2013. U.S. shipments of gas warm air fur- naces for February 2014 increased 9.7%, to 181,122 units, up from 165,114 units shipped in February 2013. O i l w a r m a i r f u r n a c e s h i p m e n t s increased 3.8%, to 2,239 units in February 2014, up from 2,157 units shipped in February 2013. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased 14.2%, to 390,789 units, compared with 342,239 units shipped during the same period in 2013. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces decreased 8.7% to 4,615, com- pared with 5,055 units shipped during the same period in 2013. Central Air Conditioners and Air- Source Heat Pumps—U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 306,141 units in December 2013, up 8.2% from 282,840 units shipped in December 2012. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 2.3%, to 186,484 units, up from 182,323 units shipped in December 2012. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 19.0%, to 119,657 units, up from 100,517 units shipped in December 2012. U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 370,582 units in January 2014, up 23.0% from 301,176 units shipped in January 2013. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 19.8%, to 215,062 units, up from 179,492 units shipped in January 2013. U.S. ship- ments of air-source heat pumps increased 27.8%, to 155,520 units, up from 121,684 units shipped in January 2013. U.S. shipments of central air condi- tioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 396,863 units in February 2014, up 11.0% from 357,637 units shipped in February 2013. U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 4.3%, to 241,546 units, up from 231,488 units shipped in February 2013. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 23.1%, to 155,317 units, up from 126,149 units shipped in February 2013. Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 16.5 percent, to 767,445 units, up from 658,813 units shipped in February 2013. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased 11.1 percent, to 456,608 units, up from 410,980 units shipped during the same period in 2013. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased 25.4 percent, to 310,837 units, up from 247,833 units shipped during the same period in 2013.
