Product Round-up | Backhoes and Excavators Bobcat E26 minimal-tail-swing compact excavator Joining the Bobcat M-Series lineup is the E26 minimal-tail-swing compact excavator. The E26 has an operating weight of 5,690 pounds and an overall width of 59 inches. The excavator is powered by a 27-hp. diesel engine that is Interim Tier 4 compliant. The unit’s minimal 0.8 inches of tail overhang allows the machine to fit in tight surroundings, and it leaves a lighter footprint than the 325 and 425 models it replaces making it ideal for landscape applications. The E526 is standard equipped with a canopy ROPS/TOPS, while full climate con- trol (HVAC) is optional. The compact excavator is available in standard and long arm configurations, enabling operators to dig in close quarters or reach farther in a smaller space, depending on the task at hand. Bradco 485 backhoe The Bradco 485 backhoe by Paladin Construction Group increases utilization of skid-steer loaders and tractors. At 925 pounds without a bucket, its compact size allows operators to easily move the unit around the job site and provides a maximum digging depth of 8 feet 5 inches. The full 180-degree dual-cylinder swing rotation provides equal power in both directions. A 10-foot-7-inch horizontal reach from the swing post efficiently places dirt away from the digging area and minimizes the need to move the machine. The Bradco 485 backhoe is compatible with bucket sizes from 10 inches up to 24 inches and heaped capacities that range from .92 cubic feet up to 3.1 cubic feet. Case CX55B excavator Case Construction Equipment expanded its compact excavator product line into a new class segment with the introduction of the Case CX55B minimum-tail-swing model. The new compact excavator provides superior lift capacity, digging force and operator comfort. With a large boom and arm for greater reach, the Case CX55B delivers 11,240 lbf of bucket digging force. Its 39.3-hp. engine, operating weight of 12,295 pounds, and dig depth of 12 feet 10 inches give the CX55B enough size and power for tackling a variety of utility, com- mercial and residential construction applications. Plus, its compact size and cab height of 8 feet 4 inches make the Case CX55B excava- tor as easy to trailer between jobsites as a skid-steer. Cat D Series mini excavators The new Cat D Series mini hydraulic excavators — models 303.5D CR, 304D CR, 305D CR and 305.5D CR — are powerful, versatile, compact-radius machines that work comfortably in confined spaces and build on the quality design and reliability of their C Series pred- ecessors. With model designations that closely reflect their operating weights (3.5 to 5.5 metric tons), the new machines feature en- hanced stability for greater productivity, a redesigned work-tool coupler, load-sensing hydraulics, and engines that meet U.S. EPA Tier-4 Interim and E.U. Stage-3A emissions regulations. Similar to large excavators, D Series booms feature a curved design for digging flexi- bility and fabricated-box construction for strength and durability. The independent-swing boom allows digging next to walls and obstruc- tions, and an optional long digging arm for each model increases digging depth and lift height. Innovative Equipment line of towable mini-excavators Innovative Equipment introduced the new line of TMX towable mini-excavators. Featuring a quick-on and quick-off hitch system, the TMX units can be hooked behind a standard 1/2-ton pick-up, van or light-duty tow vehicle, saving fuel and hassle. No trailer is needed, and no CDL license is required. Lockout drive hubs enable towing at highway speeds of 65 mph. TMX units eliminate tracks by utilizing zero-turn technology, which enables convenient access to tight locations and allows work on well-established lawns. Weighing only 2,941 pounds, the TMX features an 8-foot digging depth. In addition to digging power, the TMX offers a 72-inch, 4-way blade system for efficient backfilling and grading after excavation work is complete. JCB 8035 ZTS mini excavator JCB’s 8035 ZTS mini excavator is a heavy-duty machine in a smaller package. It has the maneuverability and horsepower landscape and irrigation contractors need, all built into an excavator they can haul behind a 3/4-ton truck. A 30.4-hp. engine makes the 8035 ZTS the most powerful machine in the 2- to 4-ton weight class. Featuring progressive boom-end damping for higher productivity and smoother control, the 8035 ZTS digs to a maximum depth of 11 feet 6 inches. A zero-tail-swing feature makes this compact excavator ideal for working in tight spaces. Mustang zero-tail-swing 2803ZT excavator Mustang introduced the zero-tail-swing compact excavator model 2803ZT. The machine offers stability; a large, comfortable operator’s station; and easy access to maintenance points. Eliminating rear overhang is the main ambition of the agile zero-tail-swing design. However, the 2803ZT goes a step farther by enhancing stability with a longer undercarriage. The slim machine offers a sturdy track width and optional counterweight, creating an even more stable machine. The spacious cab is low in height, making low-clearance en- tries a snap for operators. The 2803ZT also features a side-mounted engine and rear-mounted hydraulic and fuel tanks, giving mechan- ics easy access to all maintenance points. Transport by trailer is possible with the new compact excavator, thanks to its low weight. Terex TLB840 backhoe loader The new Terex TLB840 backhoe loader boasts an 88-hp. Perkins engine, and is powered by an optional 4-speed servo power syncro transmission with automatic shifting. The TLB840 has a curved boom design that offers operators greater clearance to reach over obsta- cles and the ability to load closer into trucks for greater productivity. With a dig depth of 14 feet 9 inches (extended to 18 feet 1 inch) and a reach up of 18 feet 9 inches (extended 21 feet 11 inches), the Terex TLB840 is designed with a new slew system that provides high torque for easier backfilling and slewing uphill. The “deep dig” extendable dipper stick is new on the TLB840. With an optional thumb attachment, operators are able to clamp objects and materials between the bucket and dipper with ease. www.greenmediaonline.com/productportal 22 Landscape and Irrigation July/August 2011 www.landscapeirrigation.com For more information about any of these products, and more, visit
