Crossroads of Civilization g the other exhibits we've un- veiled over the years at MPM, but one of my favorites is the integration of technology," explains Dennis Kois, presi- dent and CEO of the museum. "Visitors can travel through a temple interior, see inside a mummy and for the first time at MPM, the exhibit design allows us to update content as time moves forward, infor- mation changes, and more research becomes available." Upon entering, visitors can explore 4,000 years of history from the rise of the earliest civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia to the fall of the Western Roman Empire using a wall-sized interactive timeline. Flanked by life-size figures of Greek and Persian warriors from 500 BCE, a large video screen depicts the growth, expansion and decline of doz- ens of civilizations, kingdoms and empires. A continuously developing sequence of more than 75 maps can be manipu- lated to stop at any desired time period. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a life-size replica of King Tutankhamun in his char- iot pulled by horses. Chariots were among the treasures found in the young king's tomb. The figure of King Tut was created by mu- seum artists, based on the latest forensic research. In the early 1960s, a mu- seum artist created a scale model of the first courtyard of the temple of Pharaoh Ramesses III. Crossroads offers digitized recreations of other areas of this structure not previously "explorable" via video screen. The museum's two Egyptian mummies, Padi-Heru and Djed-Hor, have been part of the col - lection since 1887. Visitors will watch the progres- sion through the body of young priest Padi-Heru based on the latest scan in 2011 and examine details of his mummification. Visitors also will see an unexpected dramatic med- ical procedure revealed by Djed-Hor. Admission is $17/adults, $14/seniors (65+), $12/ youth (5-13) and children under 4 are free. Ad- mission after 5 p.m. on Thursdays is $10.
