Many of the wine industry's top executives gathered in the town of Napa to share updates, goals and ideas about the latest trends in the green wine market. Th e two-day conference off ered an assortment of seminars and panels, as well as opportunities for networking, meals and wine tastings. It also off ered an opportunity for Cheers to debut its exclusive pullout section on sustainable and organic products featured in the November/December 2011 issue of the magazine. Th e conference's general session examined sustainability from a global perspective. Other topics included how to interest the consumer in green products and best market them; a comparison of the best green practices in California versus other countries; how to most eff ectively sell green products; and upcoming trends for the category. Th e gathering also featured a series of smaller, fi ne-tuned breakout sessions. One of the most relevant panels for the wine industry was "Global Green Perspectives," a roundtable that off ered perspectives on green wine production from all over the world. Th e panel/conference call featured a handful of California- and Oregon-based speakers live on site teleconferenced in with winery executives from South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. It touched on common goals, past experience and future plans. Th e Green Wine Summit, according to the event chair Lesley Berglund, featured leaders in sustainability, organics and biodynamics. It is focused on winery executives who work in fi nance, technology and sales and marketing; as well as regulation, vendors and service providers. —By Liza B.
