JOBS for TEAMS | 16 www.jobsfor teams.com Teaming Right Continued love about his job. In addition to the great pay and the off-time they were told about initially, the team says Barr-Nunn also offers fair treatment of its drivers, safe company practices, and dispatchers that are willing to work with them. Most importantly, Litchkofski says, they finally feel like they work for a company that's just as much a partner to them as their team driver is. "Mike and I are a team," Litchkofski says, "and we work with Barr-Nunn as part of our team." Competitive pay "We're making more money than we ever did anywhere else," Miller says. "Honestly, I don't even know what we're making any more per mile because we've gotten so many penny raises." Equally as important as the per-mile rate, Miller says, is the fairness regard- ing those miles and other expenses. Barr-Nunn pays practical miles and reimburses drivers for any unexpected expenses, he says. "They pay you for the work you're actually doing, and any out-of-pocket expenses are on the next Friday's paycheck," Miller says. And, Litchkofski adds, drivers are compensated if there's a cancellation or if they have to wait over an hour when dropping off or picking up a load. "They worry about the little guy," she says. In addition, Miller and Litchkofski say their benefits at Barr-Nunn currently include two and a half weeks of paid vaca- tion on top of their regular off days. "There are some teams that go home every week- end. Some solo drivers are even home every night, " Litchkofski says. "Regardless, your home time is your home time, and if you need to take time off, they let you. They don't give you any hassle." A company that works with you One of the best things about Barr- Nunn, Miller says, is how easy it is to work with them. "You always know what to expect," he says. The next two or three loads are always shown on the Qual- comm, which he says makes it easier to plan the day's drive and means less frustration from rushing and long waits. "There really is no stress," he says. Miller also appreciates Barr-Nunn's emphasis on driving safely and legally. "They have electronic logs, which we love," he says. "There's no gray area. There's no confusion about whether we have the hours." "It's all safe and legal—that's their big thing," Litchkofski says. It actually makes their job easier, she says, because they always know what is expected of them. Another way Barr-Nunn tries to make life easier on their drivers is through its help system. "If you have a problem, even at night, you get real people on the phone who can actually help you," Miller says. "And you're never on hold more than three or four minutes. We've worked at other companies where you'd break down and end up on hold 45 minutes." "Not only that, they listen to you," Litchkofski adds. "They listen to your sug- gestions. Sometimes they take them, and sometimes they say, 'Let's do it this other way,' but they always listen to your ideas. They work with you, not against you." Team players "Working for Barr-Nunn was the best decision I ever made," Miller says. "They are better than any company I've ever driven for. But it's not just us—you don't talk to a team at Barr-Nunn that's having a bad day." "My advice to a new driver? Keep a clean driving record, and after a year, hire on at Barr-Nunn. You won't regret it. Hiring on with Barr-Nunn is the best decision you are ever going to make in your life.">
