Career Schneider makes it easier for service members to become drivers O ne of the na on's largest truck- load carriers is making it easier for members of the U.S. military and veterans to transi on into truck driving jobs. Schneider, ranked eighth on "Com- mercial Carrier Journal's" 2015 Top 250 List, adjusted its Credit for Mili- tary Experience Program recently. Based in Green Bay, Wisc., Schnei- der announced it has updated its Credit for Military Experience Pro- gram "… to ensure that a new driver's complete military tenure is recognized and rewarded," said the company in a statement. The program offers two different opportunities for military members to increase starting pay: • New drivers with experience driving a truck during his or her service will have 100 percent of their military time converted to Schneider driving experience. That means four years of military driving experience will equal four years at Schneider, ac- cording to the company. • New drivers who served in the military but not in a transportation capacity will see 25 percent of their military time served qualify toward Schneider experi- ence. That means four years of military experience equals one year of Schneider driv- ing experience. "We've been committed to serving individuals in the military for 80 years, and 27 percent of our driving force is current or former military," offered Rob Reich, senior vice president at Schneider and a former member of the U.S. Army. "We're proud to enhance our program and provide career opportunities with a company that respects their incredible skills, experiences and leadership." This program is available to candi- dates who have served in the military and were discharged in the last 12 months or are actively serving in the National Guard or Reserves. ◆ 20 www.studentdriversplacement.com December '15 Paths Schneider improved its program to get veterans into the driver's seat.
