46 | Overdrive | December 2015 DRIVE TEST Added efficiencies P eterbilt has a new lightweight sleeper, targeting regional and bulk-haul applications, for its Model 579 highway tractor. The 58-inch mid-rise sleeper is well-suited for operators who go out for two or three days at a time and don't need a full-size studio sleeper. Also newly available on the 579 is Paccar's MX-11, which recently was rolled out for sister Paccar company Kenworth. Other options rounding out the Model 579 Epiq enhanced fuel economy spec are a new Predictive Cruise Control System, as well as Eaton and Paccar's jointly developed optimized drivetrain. The sleeper's reduced size doesn't mean it's cramped. It offers plenty of room to stretch out, a standard HD TV mounting bracket, a combination work/storage station, an optional mini- fridge and an array of cli- mate and lighting controls. The MX-11, designed by Paccar's DAF subsidiary in The Netherlands, is being built in Columbus, Miss., for global distribution.
