January 2016 | Overdrive | 31 In 2009, roots-rock and country outfi t Pure Grain, based near Cincinnati, released the "Out of the Storm" al- bum that featured their lead vocalist at the time, Chris "Carolina Kid" Taber, who had recently been a long-haul driver. Taber left the band and music altogether in 2012, but the "Truckin' Song" track on that 2009 record, one rolling romp of a song, lives on. In December, the 2009 "Truckin' Song" video Brian DeBruler and Michelle D'Amico (also husband and wife) produced for the band passed 1 million views on Youtube. That's a lot of attention to a track that remains well outside the mainstream. DeBruler credited the support of venues such as Truckers News, Overdrive and Sirius XM for getting the song out there initially, as well as "every truck driver out there on the road. … Truckers keep Amer- ica and Pure Grain rolling!" DeBruler got something of a shock at the 2015 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., when he found a vendor selling a compilation CD of trucking songs. The four-disc set was peppered with classics such as "Eastbound and Down" and "Six Days on the Road." "And then I saw it," he says, "right there on disc 3: 'Truckin' Song' by Pure Grain." DeBruler's initial "perplexed and almost angry" reaction – he'd never licensed the song for that reproduction – over time turned to a "fl attering sense that we had fi nally arrived," he says, "and were truly embraced by the trucking culture of America."
