Fleet News 48 | Overdrive | January 2016 PAY WERNER announced a pay increase for its 48-state solo van company drivers that equates to an aver- age of $5,000 in increased annual compensation. Effective Jan. 1, the increase impacts about 1,400 drivers in the Omaha, Neb.-based company's One- Way Truckload Van fleet. EQUIPMENT KANE IS ABLE INC., a Scranton, Pa.-based third- party logistics provider, purchased 30 new Kenworth T680 trucks powered by the Paccar MX-13 engine. The T680 has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay designation. ACQUISITIONS ABF LOGISTICS acquired Bear Transportation Services, a nonasset truckload brokerage firm based in Plano, Texas, for $26 million. Bear has more than 140 employees and about $120 million in annual revenue. The acquisition complements ABF's prior purchase of Oklahoma City-based Smart Lines Transportation Group last January. FACILITIES DAYTON FREIGHT LINES, a provider of regional less-than-truckload services, relocated its Kalkaska service center in Michigan from a nine-door build- ing to a $2 million, 32-door facility in Grayling. The company also opened its first Nebraska service cen- ter, a 10-door facility in Omaha. Richmond, Va.-based ESTES EXPRESS LINES opened a new terminal in Racine, Wis., to meet increased demand throughout Greater Milwaukee. The 24-door terminal is the LTL company's ninth Wisconsin facility. A&R LOGISTICS of Louisville, Ky., leased an additional 70,000 square feet of warehouse space in Jeffersonville, Ind., increasing capacity to 173,000 square feet. The facility offers transload- ing and transport services to bulk and packaging customers. J.B. HUNT is building a 133,000-square-foot office building at its headquarters in Lowell, Ark., and cre- ating 1,000 jobs over the next six years. The project is expected to be complete by spring 2017. XPO LOGISTICS opened a new service center in Joliet, Ill. The $12 million facility will serve as the Chicagoland-area hub for the company's less-than- truckload services. The 41,600-square-foot service center employs 70, and over time XPO plans to double the facility's workforce. Reynolds, who has driven more than 2 million miles without an accident, has been driving trucks since 1978 and has spent the last 29 years working for Con-way Freight, which recently was acquired by XPO. Reynolds also was a finalist for the American Trucking Associations' Americas Road Team for three consecutive years. He also placed in the top four of every Arizona State Truck Driving Championship from 2001 to 2010. XPO Logistics driver Ross Reynolds has driven more than 2 million miles over nearly 40 years without an accident.
