Health Help By Deanne Winslett 10 // OWNER OPERATOR // SEPTEMBER 2016 THIS SMALL DEVICE COULD REPLACE YOUR CPAP MACHINE I t looks like a pacifier and could replace the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine used to treat obstructive sleep apnea. The Airing is a maskless, hoseless, cordless micro-CPAP device, designed to treat sleep apnea, an ailment affecting many truck drivers. Sleep apnea causes several health problems including fatigue, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. According to Airing's developers, 50 percent of CPAP users stop using their machines within the first year. Airing is designed to change that by being small, comfortable and convenient. It has silicone nose buds designed to seal inside the nostril. It has an inhalation vent, exhalation vents and holds all the necessary electronics while still weighing less than an ounce. The company behind Airing is awaiting approval from the Food & Drug Administration. OO 0916 health help oo.indd 1 8/9/16 10:41 AM
