DIVERSIONS AUDIOBOOK Singer-songwriter Lindsay Lawler launched a new Internet radio show in July. By Corey Craft 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series Something old, something new By Randy Grider Country singer-songwriter Lindsay Lawler is mixing traditional classics with up-and-coming sounds on her new online trucking radio show. Best known for her relationship with the Truckload Carriers Association's Highway Angel program, Lawler's "On the Road to Music City" show runs 5-8 p.m. CDT Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Renegade Radio Nashville network (renegaderadionashville.com). Listeners can stream the show live on a computer or download a free app for smartphones and tablets. "We have everything from Merle Haggard to music from newcomers," Lawler says. "We have an 'unplugged' segment featuring the latest works of some very talented songwriters and local singers." Among other segments, the show also features interviews with celebrities from reality TV shows and TCA Highway Angels, drivers who have rendered aid to people involved in a highway emergency. Drivers can request us to play something special for the family back home." Lawler formed a partnership with TCA in 2010 and became the spokesperson for the Highway Angel program. The "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels, beginning with "A Game of Thrones," are dense fantasy epics, packed with intrigue, violence, war and sex. The books following an increasingly large group of characters as war breaks out in the mythical land of Westeros and beyond. Actor Roy Dotrice reads all five audiobooks, keeping a complicated tale clear by performing different voices for each character. This becomes helpful in the denser later books, which you'll get to more quickly than you'd expect – because once you start listening to these books, it's hard to stop. You can find all five of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels – "A Game of Thrones," "A Clash of Kings," "A Storm of Swords," "A Feast for Crows" and "A Dance with Dragons" – at any major retailer that sells audiobooks, including major electronic retailers like iTunes and Audible.
