CHANGING LANES Bloody KnucklesBy Peter D. DuPre MY AUTOMOTIVE Bucket List One of the sure things about this world is that nobody gets out of here alive. Sooner or, hopefully, later we've all got to go and that means it behooves us to make the most of the time we have, and it doesn't mean raising a crop of potatoes on the sitting room couch! Of course, the problem is that life tends to get in the way of living. You just can't go bass fishing when you've got 60,000 lbs of Georgia peaches that need to be delivered to a fruit processing center in Stockton… at least, not if you want to pay the mortgage. Still, life needs to be lived even while work needs to get done, which is why so many of us have a bucket list – you know, that list of things you want to do before you 34 kick the bucket. Now some people have a list of absolutely incredible (and often expensive) things they want to do before their clock stops, like taking an ocean liner cruise around the world, hiking glaciers in Antarctica, or climbing Mount Everest. Me? Not so much. I'm pretty content just getting by in these here United States, but that doesn't mean I don't have a wish list of things I'd like to get done. In fact, I have two bucket lists: one is for me and one is for Ol' Red. One of the things I'd like to get done is to take a long 4x4 journey through the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and across the deserts of the American Southwest. Back when I was teen, my father used to take my brothers and me out into the California and Arizona OCTOBER 2012 // WWW.CHANGINGLANESDIGITAL.COM
