On Sunday, the rollicking 13th annual Dachshund Derby at 1pm includes a costume contest. A worship service at 10:30am on Sunday morning is celebrated in English and German and features a 120 member chorus. DINING - Bratwurst, potato pancakes, bienenstich (German coffeecake filled with a special custard and topped with almonds and honey), kasseler rippchen (smoked pork chops), sauerbraten (marinated beef), kirschtorte (Black Forest cherry cake) and spanferkel (roasted whole pig) are among the favorites. DRINKING - Wein-Bauer Inc. & Schlink Haus, official wine of German Fest, offers tastings. At the Niche Schnapps' Garten, savor spirits from some of Germany's oldest and most renowned distillers. Barenjaeger, the original German honey liqueur, is the official spirit of German Fest, also available is Feigling, a brand of naturally-flavored fig liquor. FOOD AND DRINK ARE ALWAYS A HIGH POINT This competition brings the top professional and collegiate lumberjack athletes in the country to Wisconsin for the first time in its 33rd season. Thrilling and grueling chopping and sawing competitions take place at the BMO Harris Pavilion. The series airs on ABC in the fall, with re-airs on ESPN, ESPN2 and NBC Sports.
