Custom Rigs How To Double your fun By Bruce W. Smith Bring back the look and feel of twin sticks with 12ga. Customs' upgrade kit If Photos by Bruce W. Smith a twin-stick "conversion" is not high on your to-do list, make room for it near the top. Nothing speaks "old school" like a pair of long shifters sticking up out of your truck's floorboard. Though the twin-stick era is long gone, you can bring back the fun and style of that classic look by using the 12ga. Customs conversion kit. Listed here are the steps 12ga. head man Jeff Battler uses when he installs the kit, which costs about $500 and takes about 4 hours. This twin-stick conversion kit was installed on Vinnie Diorio's Peterbilt 379. 1 Position the assembled air manifold in a location that provides easy access to the transmission air lines and protection from the elements; Battler chose the tool/battery box for this installation. Mark where it fits best, then use a Unibit or hole saw to pop a three-quarter-inch hole through the box wall. 12ga. Customs' conversion kit comes with complete instructions, wiring, an air line, solenoids, plumbing, one-inch steel shifter sticks and a custom electric-shift mounting base. The kit comes preplumbed and prewired. 2 Install fittings, and tighten. Use thread sealant on every air fitting. 62 | Overdrive | June 2013 How_To_0613.indd 62 5/28/13 9:55 PM
